The Vigilemus app collects nothing about you. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind — your prayer life is between you and God.
This is not a promise about how carefully we handle your data. It is a description of an app that has no way to gather any: it is built without permission to use the network at all, so the operating system would refuse it a connection even if the code asked for one.
This website is a separate thing, and it does count visits. It is described in full below — the short version being that the site knows a page was read, and the app knows nothing whatever about you.
What stays on your device
Everything. Every text — the Mass readings, the Douay-Rheims Bible, the Little Office, the Rosary, the novenas, the prayers, and the Church Fathers — is bundled inside the app when you install it, as are all the recordings of the Hours and the Rosary. Nothing is fetched as you pray.
Your own activity — which novena you have begun, the days you have marked, your reminder times, your chosen text size and narration speed — is stored only on your device, in the app's own private storage. It is never transmitted anywhere. Uninstalling the app removes it.
Network use
The app makes no network requests of its own. It does not check for content updates, does not stream audio, and does not contact any server while you use it.
The only time anything leaves your phone is when you deliberately tap something that opens another app:
- a source link — the citations under each text link to their public-domain source (Project Gutenberg, CCEL, Divinum Officium); tapping one opens your browser, and from that point you are on that site, under its privacy policy, not ours;
- this privacy page, and the feedback address in Settings, which open your browser and your mail app respectively.
If you write to us, we will of course have whatever you put in that email. We use it to answer you and for nothing else.
This website
The app and this site are not the same thing, and it would be dishonest to let one page's promise cover both. The app cannot collect anything. This site counts visits.
It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which Cloudflare provides without cookies and without fingerprinting: nothing is stored on your device, nothing follows you to another site, and there is no profile of you anywhere. What it records is the page you opened, the referring link if there was one, a coarse idea of browser, operating system and country, and how quickly the page loaded. What we see is a count — how many people read this page this week — never a person.
It is one script, served from static.cloudflareinsights.com, which reports back
to this domain. Any content blocker stops it, and nothing here needs it to work. We keep it
because we would otherwise have no idea whether any of this is read.
None of this happens in the app. The app has no network permission, so there is nothing to block and nothing to turn off.
Permissions
The app asks permission to post notifications, so that a novena reminder can reach you at the time you chose — on both Android and iPhone. Reminders are scheduled on your device; declining the permission costs you only the reminders. The app requests no access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, or files.
Children
The app is suitable for any age and collects no data from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Since the app collects nothing, we do not expect it to change often.
